Brief History of the Anatolian Shepherd Dog
The Anatolian Shepherd Dog (ASD) is an ancient dog. To this day it remains relatively
unchanged from its ancestors of thousands of years ago. The ASD retains many of the
same instincts and characteristics its ancestors possessed thousands of years ago. The ASD
is a large (100 lb plus) and very powerful dog that knows no fear. The ASD is a very serious
and superb Livestock Guardian Dog. The instincts and qualities that make the ASD a natural
Livestock Guardian are its exceptional intelligence, large size, amazing speed, excellent
agility, fierce loyalty, darn good memory, extreme independence and considerable aloofness.
These characteristics and instincts also make it a great Guardian Dog.
However, these characteristics and instincts also make it a breed NOT ideally suited for everyone.
